Pulse of the Day (11.11.2020): Reassessing Value

Welcome back to The Daily Pulse!

I love today's pulse! Let me explain why. Rest is a rare thing in the world's structures and today's pulse, while doesn't explicitly ask you to rest, but it definitely asks you to reconsider the value that every or a particular aspect of your life holds for you, before expending your efforts more than what is needed. Reminds me of the song, Put Down What You're Carrying by Trevor Hall.

When we think of work, we are often taught to think of it and approach it in the hyper capitalist, patriarchal and eurocentric ways that the world is structured. I'm not saying that hustling to do your work is a bad thing and you must abandon it. Far from it! If you don't do that when necessary, you may end up not fully actualising your potential. So, no don't stop hustling. But, stop forcing hustle where it's unnecessary!

When you're juggling too many things - gigs (considering that the way the world works is going to shift even more - that's a conversation for another time though), family, friendships, chores, your own mental and physical health - without consciously understanding which ones are necessary, or a priority and which ones are... just extra baggage that you're carrying out of habit or old patterns, it leads to the world's hottest dis-ease - stress. The point of life is to learn to not be divorced from our authentic self, our inner voice that runs around the world in various names - soul, higher self, inner being, higher wisdom, adult self, inner child. The list could go on and on. But the point is that there's that one hustle where one has to put food on the table, or one has to raise a family or ensure one's own survival. And then there's that hustle where one has to do all that and finds oneself constantly having to do that as if years of effort haven't really brought any forward movement. That's when hustle could have become a habit, an escape, a pattern emerging from a learnt sense of belief in one's powerlessness to find another way out of a situation.

So, if you're juggling a lot of things and find no value or little value in doing that, today's pulse asks you to take a step back and ask yourself if you really need to do that, if there isn't a better, smarter, more effective solution; because the last two months of this year demand us to choose better, choose our own wellbeing in a way that's most empowering, with newer options opening like never before.

Until tomorrow!
